WebDec 31, 2016 · If the hum goes away, start connecting all the other gear such as tape deck, Phono etc, one at time testing as each one is reconnected. it could be another piece of equipment or a ground loop introducing the hum. Good luck with your troubleshooting, don't give up on that unit its worth keeping. Audio Lab in Cambridge MA may be worth looking into as they cite McIntosh. I really think there is a very good chance the bias needs adjustment.
WebAug 8, 2014 · All true. Back in the mid 70s I used a DC-300a as my hi-fi amp for a year or so. When Kiss came to town in 1976 the had an amp failure and rented my amp for their show. In late 76 when I got my BMW 320i (3rd one on the West Coast) I built a stereo in it using a Crown D-60 and 2 pairs of ADS speakers.
